Gagnard Chassage-Montrachet 1er “Clos de la Maltroye” 2016

Gagnard’s style is the Chassagne of yesteryear — and we mean that in the best way possible. Sure, she’s converted to organics, and has even experimented with screwcaps on some other cuvées. But if Chassagne-Montrachet brings to mind the bold, unctuous, mouthfilling style of white Burgundy, then Gagnard is your source, and Maltroye is your wine.

The nose of the Maltroye is enticing and lively, with notes of pear, citrus, baked apple, and herbal honey. The mouth is rich and round and very long, with clean freshness layered over pillowy waves of yellow fruit. Burghound awarded 91 points, calling it “particularly outstanding,” and “caressing,” and finding “excellent vibrancy.”
