Thomas Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er “Embrazees” 19
Thomas Morey is as much a part of Chassagne as the bell tower or the fields of vines — his family has lived in the village since 1643. Morey’s style is one of understatement. He picks early, oaks sparingly, and crafts Chassagne cuvées of tension and purity rather than opulence and showiness.
The Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru “Les Embrazees” is opulent and fresh at the same time. The nose is similar to the village: ripe and expressive, with just a hint of wood to complement the fruit. In the mouth it is even more impressive — with plenty of body, rich and mouth filling, but also showing all kinds of complexity and exceptional length. Burghound awarded 93 points, remarking “This is really lovely and a wine of finesse and punch.”
