Thomas Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 2016

Morey’s whites are exquisite. They don’t quite flaunt the opulent richness many people expect from Chassagne-Montrachet — his metered use of oak and careful vinification mean they almost seem Puligny-like in style. But the fruit is classic Chassagne — smooth, welcoming, and nearly impossible to put down.

A careful touch of wood frames plenty of ripe fruit. There is long and tension-filled body, and the balancing acidity seems just right. This is a fine job all around, and while Morey’s prices are hardly bargain basement, we think this cuvée provides excellent value.
